A Campaign to Inspire Tomorrow’s Explorers

Reuben H. Fleet So Watt ExhibitionKeeping pace with rapid changes in science and technology is more challenging today than ever before. From bioscience breakthroughs right here in San Diego to advances in computer imaging that are redefining Hollywood entertainment and our view of the universe, science and technology are transforming the world in which we live.

When the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center opened in 1973, it unveiled several firsts: the world’s first tilted dome planetarium, America’s first IMAX Theater, and the first museum to merge a giant-screen theater with hands-on science exhibits. Established as a non-profit educational institution, the Fleet Science Center set out to inspire lifelong learning by furthering the public understanding and enjoyment of science and technology.

Thirty-five years later, after welcoming millions of schoolchildren, families and curious minds of all ages, the Fleet Science Center has launched “Creating Possibilities, Inspiring Tomorrow,” a $20 million fundraising campaign which will allow us to present more effectively the latest advances in science and technology to the public and inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and explorers.

RHFleet Creating Possibilities Inspring Tomorrow“Creating Possibilities, Inspiring Tomorrow” will fund extensive renovations and technology upgrades to the Space Theater, expanded education programs and facilities, new hands-on science exhibitions, a digital video production studio, and greater long-term financial security through a stronger endowment and operational support.

Several campaign projects are already underway, and Space Theater renovations—which are organized into three phases—will begin this fall.
