Membership Tips
How much will your Fleet membership save you? The more often you use it, the more you’ll save. And here are seven great tips to get you started:
Tip No. 1 — Make your IMAX Vouchers go farther! *
Here are tips that can stretch your IMAX vouchers:
- Purchase the second IMAX film for $3.50.
Here’s why: For the first film you see, you will have to use an IMAX voucher or pay $8.25. For the second film, you could use an IMAX voucher, but later on, adults will have to purchase future IMAX tickets at $8.25. If you think you will use up your vouchers over the course of the year, it would save you money in the long run to purchase the second IMAX film for $3.50.
- Purchase discounted tickets for the Juniors and Seniors in your group.
Here’s why: Once your IMAX vouchers are gone, Adults will must purchase discounted tickets at $8.25. Since Junior and Senior tickets are less expensive, you will save money in the long run by purchasing a discounted IMAX ticket for them and saving your vouchers for use by adults.
- Use your IMAX vouchers before they expire!
Your vouchers are valid for a year and we make it easy for you to redeem them. Use them before they expire. They cannot be extended.
- Your IMAX Vouchers are transferable!
Give your IMAX vouchers to friends and out of town guests – let them come down to enjoy the Fleet on their own. (You do not even need to be present when the vouchers are redeemed.)
* If your vouchers are close to expiring or if you don’t think you will use them all during the course of the year, then use them up now!
Tip No. 2 — Discounted admission to The Sky Tonight
If you enjoy astronomy, then Fleet membership is your ticket to the stars! On the first Wednesday of each month, we present The Sky Tonight, a live planetarium show about what you can see from your own backyard that month. Discovery Society members and their families are admitted free. All other members receive a discount. Afterwards (operational conditions permitting), join us in front of the building for telescope viewing (presented in cooperation with the San Diego Astronomy Association).
Tip No. 3 — Member reservation privileges
Avoid disappointment by making an IMAX reservation in advance:
- Choose the name, date and time of the film that you wish to see
- Have your membership I.D. number ready
- Call (619) 238-1233, ext. 3
- Claim your reservation at least 15 minutes before show time; always allow extra time for parking.
- Stop at the Members Window to claim your reservation.
Remember, we save the show, but not the seat. If sitting in a particular section of the theater is important, arrive early.
Tip No. 4 — Membership brings you valuable discounts
Learn about films, exhibitions, education programs and more in our membership newsletters, annual report and other member publications.
Tip No. 5 — Our member publications keep you up to date
Read all about the Fleet in our quarterly newsletter, FACETS. All members now receive a monthly newsletter flyer with updates on our films and exhibitions. (Members with e-mail addresses will receive this information in e-Update.) No worries about missing a program because you didn’t read it in the newspaper or hear about it from friends!
Tip No. 6 — Help us help you!
The post office charges a handling fee to process business reply renewal envelopes. If you place a first class stamp on the envelope, they charge us nothing. Help make more funds available for our education programs by putting a first class stamp on your renewal envelope.
