Inquiry
Learning Partnership
The Inquiry Learning Partnership (ILP), is a teacher training program modeled after the Fleet Inquiry Institute and funded through a California Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant (CaMSP) . Our professional development model was designed to increase student academic achievement through the deepening of teacher content knowledge and inquiry-based pedagogy. Participants from Chula Vista Elementary School District and Lemon Grove School District have attended weeklong summer Inquiry Institutes and a wide array of intensive content and pedagogy Saturday sessions over the past 3 years.
Each teacher also received at least 24 hours of follow up support in the form of lesson planning, coaching and team teaching. Through this grant, the Reuben H. Fleet provided release days for participants to access our Teacher Think Tank (T3), a room rich with literary resources and inquiry-based science kits ready for check out. This personal mix of intensive and follow-up support, unique to the design of the CaMSP grant, has enabled the Fleet to see positive change in classroom practice firsthand!
The most unique experience for some of our teachers was the opportunity to pursue a M.A. at the University of San Diego in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education. Thanks to this special partnership with USD, we had 25 participants graduate last spring in the class of 2007.
This current project will be drawing to a close in June 2008 and we will be launching a new program with different school districts in 2009. Please check back later.
