Leadership Strand

This strand of the program was designed as the next step for those Fleet Inquiry Institute alumni interested in furthering their understanding of inquiry-based learning while enriching their content in mathematics and science. Participation in this strand includes co-facilitation of pedagogy workshops as well as providing peer support for inquiry-based instruction at participant’s school site.

Requirements
Candidates must

  • Have already attended the Fleet Inquiry Institute.
  • Be willing to co-facilitate workshops and provide peer support for inquiry-based instruction.
  • Be assigned to a 4th-8th grade classroom for the 2005-2006 school year.
  • Have school administration complete commitment form.
  • Complete Teacher Commitment Form.
  • Teach in Chula Vista Elementary School District or Lemon Grove School District.

Benefits
Participants will receive

  • Up to $1600 stipend.
  • The opportunity to co-facilitate a week of professional development in math and science inquiry during the summer of 2005.
  • The opportunity to co-facilitate (when practical) or otherwise attend professional development opportunities through pedagogical and University of San Diego-led content workshops over the subsequent school year.
  • Leadership support in areas of curriculum development, site coaching, and materials management training by ILP staff.
  • Assisted access to science kits and materials.
  • Release time for peer coaching or observation.
  • An invitation to a Family Science Day at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center
