Volunteer At The Fleet!!Donate your body to science! We are looking for enthusiastic, service minded individuals to share their time and talents with us. As a Fleet volunteer, you'll spark wonder and inspire science learning. We have a wide variety of opportunities for you to help and all our crucial to our mission to inspire life-long learning in the fields of science and technology.

Fleet volunteers receive some great benefits in addition to the satisfaction that comes from knowing they’ve done something to help an exciting educational institution. Volunteers also receive: free admission to the Science Center Exhibitions, guest passes to the Science Center Exhibitions and IMAX theatre, discounts on educational programs, the North Star Science Store and Galileo’s café.
 

If you are with a group or a corporate program and would like to volunteer together, we will gladly work with you to design a volunteer experience that will have a major impact on those you serve while also keeping sure to stay aligned with your corporate philanthropic mission. Help The Fleet By Volunteering!You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to apply! To get started, simply fill out our online reservation form to reserve your spot in one of our new volunteer orientation sessions. Space is limited and dates will disappear when the class is full.

Orientation
At orientation you will learn more about the Fleet, participate in a guided tour, which is exclusively for prospective volunteers, and receive help selecting the perfect volunteer opportunity to suit your interests and schedule. Once you reserve your place in an orientation, you are on your way. Expect to receive a confirmation email one week prior to your session. The confirmation will provide details and directions. Completion of all necessary paperwork, including the application and background information is included. We will also take a photo for you name badge.

Background
Check/References We complete a thorough background check on all staff, volunteer and intern members who are 18 years or older. This check includes county, state and federal criminal records and databases. Sexual offender registries are also checked. Staff and volunteers must have a clear check with no history of violent or sexual crimes or theft. For volunteers under 18 years old, an academic reference must be provided. The recommendation form must be completed by an academic instructor prior to acceptance into the program. This form will be given during orientation. We must also have your application with guardian signature on file.

Placement
Volunteers will be assigned based on their interests, experience and the needs of the Fleet. Some assignments require an additional interview with department staff or training before placement is offered. An official assignment email and job description will be sent to volunteers when placement is complete. Please note that we reserve the right to place volunteers in an area we feel is best suited to their skills and the needs of the Fleet.


There is a small nominal fee of $5 to cover the cost of uniform.
